Install THOR

This guide uses Apptainer, available for most Linux distributions and HPC clusters. Developers and macOS users can compile from source. Windows users can try WSL2 (untested with THOR).

For the tutorial plots, install uv; the plotting commands fetch their Python dependencies automatically.

Download THOR

apptainer pull ~/thor-generic.sif oras://ghcr.io/cbyrohl/thor-generic:dev

To update an existing installation, replace the image with the latest build:

apptainer pull --force ~/thor-generic.sif oras://ghcr.io/cbyrohl/thor-generic:dev

Set up the thor command

For Apptainer:

thor() { apptainer run "$HOME/thor-generic.sif" "$@"; }

Or, for a source build, add your executable directory to PATH:

export PATH="/path/to/thor/build/src:$PATH"

Add this to ~/.bashrc or ~/.zshrc, then restart your terminal or reload the file with source.

Check the installation

thor --selftest

The self-test should end with Self-test successful.

See container options or troubleshooting for details.
