Prepare your workspace

Create a working directory

mkdir -p ~/thor-simulations
cd ~/thor-simulations

Download the inputs needed for your chosen example below.

Galaxy cutout

Used by the projection, metal absorption and galaxy Lyα examples. Download the galaxy cutout (41 MiB) into your working directory (checksums). It contains gas and stars from IllustrisTNG TNG50-1, snapshot 99, halo 625.

Gas ionization and emission (Cloudy)

These tables provide ion fractions and emission strengths for gas exposed to a radiation background. Required for the metal absorption example. Download the ion fractions and emission strengths into your working directory (309 MiB compressed; 5.4 GiB unpacked; checksums), then unpack them:

mkdir -p data/cloudy-v2
xz -dc cloudy-c17.03-fg11-rahmati2013-lg-v2-grid_ions.hdf5.xz.part0000 > data/cloudy-v2/grid_ions.hdf5
xz -dc cloudy-c17.03-fg11-rahmati2013-lg-v2-grid_emissivities.hdf5.xz.part0000 > data/cloudy-v2/grid_emissivities.hdf5

X-ray ionization and emission (AtomDB)

These tables provide ion fractions and X-ray emission strengths for hot, collisionally ionized gas. Required for the Fe XXV resonant-scattering example. Download the AtomDB table (37 MiB) into your working directory (checksums), then unpack it:

xz -dc atomdb-3.1.3-cie-ag89-fe-k-v1-atomdb.h5.xz.part0000 > cluster-cie.h5
